Why Meetings Need Decision Owners

A meeting can include thoughtful debate and still fail to produce progress. The problem is often not a lack of ideas but a lack of ownership. When everyone is invited to comment but no one is authorised to make the final call, the discussion continues until time runs out. Naming a decision owner before the meeting clarifies who will listen to the evidence, consider the trade-offs, and choose a direction.

一次会议可以包含深入的讨论，却仍然无法推动进展。问题通常不是缺少想法，而是缺少明确的责任归属。当所有人都可以发表评论，却没有人被授权做最终决定时，讨论就会持续到时间耗尽。在会议前指定决策负责人，可以明确谁来听取证据、权衡取舍并选择方向。

Decision ownership does not mean ignoring other people’s expertise. A good owner seeks input from the people closest to the work and explains the reasoning behind the choice. Once the decision is made, each follow-up action should have a named owner and a due date. This creates accountability without requiring the decision maker to complete every task personally.

决策负责并不意味着忽视他人的专业知识。优秀的负责人会向最接近实际工作的人征求意见，并解释选择背后的理由。决定一旦作出，每项后续行动都应有明确的负责人和截止日期。这样可以建立问责机制，而无需决策者亲自完成所有任务。
